Play is how young children learn about the world. Group play is an especially rich experience for kids. It is how they learn how to fit in and how to be individuals. Our client, Ontoppables is a lifestyle brand whose mission is to keep kids in play through boundless imagination.

 

They noticed that when kids play hard, they can have a hard time keeping their shoes on. This momentary interruption may not seem like a big deal but could be detrimental to the child. It could be embarrassing if the child hasn’t mastered the very technical skill of tying their shoe laces. So they approached us to design a product that helps kids keep shoes on.

We fell in love with the idea immediately and doubly so with our client, a strong, woman entrepreneur while being a mother of three. She needed help refining her concept, understanding who her customers were and how they made buying decisions.

 

Our research quickly revealed an aversion towards products that feel like a crutch, calling unwanted attention to the child. So we designed the Shoe Toppers, footwear accessories that make everyday, Halloween.
